RIP Cillian Cunningham

Tributes have poured in following the sad passing of a young Irish man who has been remembered as a gentleman who was always smiling.

Cillian Cunningham, also known as CC, was from Dundalk in Louth and formerly Kilkenny and died on Friday 12th September 2025.

Cillian's death has devastated many people, including his heartbroken mam Linda and stepfather Damien, his adoring partner Sarah and their three sons Kayden, Mason and Theo, sisters Nadine, Hayley, Cailín and Tiernagh and brother Conal, grandparents Peter Cunningham and Dermot and Kathleen McKeown, father Kenneth Cunningham, Nadine’s partner Conor, Conal’s partner Amelia, his aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.

A special tribute was made to Cillian that said: "Cillian wasn’t just an incredible teammate—he had a special gift for making every customer feel welcome and valued. His warmth, dedication, and professionalism touched everyone who met him, and working alongside him was a true privilege".

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Cillian, with one mourner writing,

"On behalf of Glenmuir United FC, we offer our deepest condolences to the Cunningham & McKeown families on the passing of Cillian. CC will always be fondly remembered as a talented team player & a loyal member of our club & community. May you rest in peace CC".

Another message said, "Completely devastated and heartbroken to hear such tragic news. Cillian, I will never forget your big smile, handshake and hug each time I saw you....You were always so upbeat, mannerly and so professional in the work place (you were so talented my friend). My sincere condolences go to your partner and 3 boys and all your family. Heaven has benefited and inherited a true great.....see you on the other side my friend."

"Rest easy bud, it was a pleasure working with you for the time we shared together. Every time I saw you after it was always the biggest smile and hello you could ever receive, such a gentleman. Sending strength to your family and friends at this time, especially Sarah and your three beautiful boys. I’ll see ya on the high stool in the sky," another person said.
